Endorsement

NON NORWEGIAN GMDSS CERTIFICATES RECOGNIZED FOR EMPLOYMENT ON BOARD NOR/NIS REGISTERED SHIPS

Application
Application for Endorsement should be sent to the Radio Inspection through a Norwegian embassy, consulate or shipping management office. The Norwegian authorities will issue a "Certificate of Receipt of Application" (CRA), which gives the applicant temporary permission to work on board Norwegian ships for 3 months while the application is being processed. Validity
The Endorsement usually has the same expiry date as the foreign radio operator's certificate, and it may
be renewed if mandatory requirements are fulfilled according to STW 95. It will be withdrawn when the holder no longer satisfies the requirements of the Certification Act.

Cost
A fee is charged for the issue of the Endorsement.

Quality
An Endorsement of a GOC or ROC will only be issued to an applicant from a foreign country if satisfactory information and documentation has been received from that country regarding quality of training, the radio equipment installed at the training institutions, and the examination procedures.

Be aware that GMDSS certificates are valid 5 years from the date of issue, and must be endorsed/renewed by the issuing authority to have continued validity (STCW rule I/11-1).
