Automatic public calls to shore telephone subscribers
If your ship is equipped with VHF-DSC, you are now offered a new service along the Norwegian coast:
"Automatic public call" meaning you may dial the number of any landline subscriber directly, without having to book the call manually through a coast radio station.
To get access to this service, you must have a valid radio license and accounting code (AAIC).
The equipment manufacturers names this facility "DIRECT DIAL" or "PSTN" (Public Switched Telephone Network). Some of the DSC equipment intended for the leisure boat market may not have this facility. Therefore, when you are buying a VHF transceiver, it is important to check which DSC functions are implemented.
For "direct dialling" just follow the instructions in the user manual: Type in MMSI number for the coast radio station, the telephone number for the shore subscriber, and then transmit the call.
Whenever you are within coverage of Norwegian coast radio, you may also use the common MMSI number for Norwegian coast radio stations: 002570000.
Telephone calls for Norway:
- Dial the telephone number without country code.
Telephone calls for rest of the world:
- Dial prefix 00, the country code, and the telephone number.
If the ship doesn't have a valid radio license, or if the DSC call contains any errors, the call will be routed to an operator at the coast radio station for manual handling.
The tariff for automated direct telephone calls is cheaper than for manual calls.
