Nature

Maritime Radio has three main departments:

- Terrestrial Coast Radio
- Radio Licencing Department
- Radio Inspection

and covers the requirements for radio communication services by the shipping trade, the fishing fleet and leisure crafts in Norway. Maritime Radio also provide expert advice on maritime radio matters to shipowners, installation firms, shipyards and Norwegian authorities.

Automatic public calls to shore telephone subscribers
Ships with VHF DSC radio equipment on board may now dial direct to telephone subscribers ashore through Norwegian coast radio stations. Read about it here.

Digital Communications
Telenor Maritime Radio offers digital radio services via maritime VHF and HF radio for vessels in Norwegian and international waters.



Radio Survey

Terrestrial Coast Radio
keeps continuous listening watch on the maritime distress frequencies and for public correspondance. The department is in close cooperation with the two main Norwegian Rescue Coordination Centres in Bodø and Stavanger.

Radio Licencing Department

issue maritime radio licences, both for the maritime mobile service and the maritime mobile satellite service.

Radio Inspection
conducts safety surveys of maritime radio installations on board ships and offshore installations. The department also issue radio operator's certificates and endorsements (qualification documents).
